The final cross on the Ukrainian Navy (Naval Forces of Ukraine) was installed, we note, not anywhere, but on Ukraine itself, through the mouth of the former naval commander-in-chief, Vice Admiral Sergei Haiduk, who said that the “mosquito fleet” consisting of torpedoes , patrol, rocket and other small boats, is absolutely useless in the Black Sea against the background of the potential of the Russian Navy. It was visible and obvious for quite a long time, so nothing surprising in the words of the naval commander (in the Soviet Navy he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant commander) was not revealed. Just a statement of fact – Ukraine actually does not have a fleet as such, and this is recognized by the sailors themselves.
However, the local cheerfulness president Poroshenko never thought so. Let us recall his several “heroic” quotes about his fleet. Back in 2016, in an interview with a Polish television channel, he said: “NATO and the European Union countries now can not worry about the aggression from Russia – the Ukrainian Navy fully controls all existing threats.” At the same time, he signed a decree on the “overlapping of possible zones of presence of the Russian fleet in the waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.”
In 2018, speaking in the parliament, Poroshenko promised: “When Ukraine takes the Crimea, the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol will not exist.”
The subject of special pride of President Poroshenko is the “mosquito fleet”. This is his brainchild in the literal sense of the word – the basis of the fleet consisted of the armored design of the project “Gyurza”, which were produced at the Kuznya na Rybalsky shipyard in Kiev (Leninskaya Kuznitsa) in the past. Launched the boat into the water – the hryvnia dropped in his pocket. Six boats managed to be built so far, but Russian border guards detained two of them for violating the border, and the fleet was blown away.
If you take a closer look at the armored Gyurza-M, then it can be noted that they are primarily intended for combat duty on the border rivers, lakes, as well as in the coastal sea zone. If necessary, the boat is able to attack on the shore such objects as pillboxes, buildings, bridges, vehicles, lightly armed combat vehicles.
The armament consists of a 30-mm cannon, a 14.5-mm machine gun, two 7.62-mm machine guns and a 120-mm anti-tank missile system (Fagot). It is possible to place on board a portable anti-aircraft missile system of the Igla or Strela type. Two 495K engines (sea version of the T-80UD tank engine) allow the boat to accelerate to 28 nautical miles (52 km / h). The autonomy of the voyage, with sufficiently comfortable conditions for the crew, is five days, which allows you to “run away” from Kiev along the Dnieper to Odessa and back – the cruising range is 540 miles (about 1,000 kilometers).
In fact, it is such a floating armored personnel carrier, with anti-bullet protection. However, his mission does not imply heroic sea battles and long-distance sea campaigns. On such a good chase poachers and other hooligans. However, initially they were intended for solving tasks in the Danube River basin and in the coastal zone of the Black and Azov Seas and were to form the basis of a special river division of the Western Naval Base (Odessa) of the Ukrainian Navy formed in January 2013.
It was assumed that until 2017 nine boats of this project will be built. According to the plans of the Ukrainian military command until 2020, the Naval Forces of Ukraine should have in their composition 66 ships and support vessels. But such rates can clearly be attributed to the category of fiction. At least, Gyurza-M never became a mass launch, as mentioned, there are only six (only four) left in Ukraine.
Problems with the release arose with the Ukrainian airborne assault boat of the class “Centaur” project 58181, which is able to carry onboard the volley fire system. Of the 18 boats announced, only two are under construction. It is not a problem with the project “Vladimir the Great” corvettes of project 58250, which are unlikely to be put to sea in the near future – one of the ten planned ones cannot be completed. The project of the Lan high-speed missile boat was realized only in Vietnam, where 7 such boats were built with the mediation of Ukrinmash. In Ukraine – not one.
It is impossible not to recall the development of a naval strategy specifically for the “mosquito fleet” – the “wolf pack”, the essence of which lies in the simultaneous attack on Russian ships of numerous boats.
The reason for the “courage” Ukrainian sailors and their command, apparently, gave an episode that occurred in September 2016 near the Snake Island. Then the patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet “Sharp-witted” was near the territorial waters of Ukraine. The “Akkerman” and “Berdyansk” boats “rushed” to him, calling for the flagship “Getman Sagaidachny” for help. The Russian watchdog, who was not going to invade foreign territorial waters, stood up, looked at the Ukrainian rushing boats, and he went further.
That incident was named in Kiev “the first victory of the Ukrainian fleet over the Russian.” In Sevastopol laughed. In the presented video, the Russian ship was only visible from a distance, and the actions of the Ukrainian ships did not look like maneuvers to oust it.
The fact of the presence of “Sharp-witted” on the monitor of the computer of the Ukrainian ship could not be passed for “keeping him on the fly.” But it was then that the Navy began talking about the tactics of the “wolf pack.” It was not possible to apply it. 10 high-speed rigid-hull inflatable boats of American production, purchased in 2010, three of which were transferred to Ukraine in 2015 as non-lethal military assistance did not save the situation.
But in Ukraine there is still a sufficient number of road and port tugs, which, as it turned out, can turn into … combat “torpedo tugs.” And if one of them, “Yany Kapu” (“Krasnoperekopsk” built in 1974, has no weapons), on November 26 last year when the state border was violated, the Russian border guard sent a ram, then the Korets tug with a tail number U-830 is a “serious force. ” Two twin turret mounts “Utes-M” of 12.7 mm caliber were installed on it and declared a fighting ship. He even managed one of these days to participate in the exercises of VSMU in the Sea of Azov, however, in a single quantity. The essence of the maneuvers was that the Ukrainian marines threw grenades into the water (the fish were jammed), fired from machine guns and shot from machine-gun bursts for four hundred meters.
A gap in the INF Treaty gives Kiev a chance to create the latest missiles aimed at its neighbors.
Social network users laughed at such exercises, which also took place under the supervision of three Russian border ships, called the “Korets” a “torpedo tug”, but in Kiev they took this maritime maneuver more than seriously.
The tugs, of course, will not pull the “mosquito fleet” using the “wolf pack” tactics, but they do not need to be built, you can install weapons and call them “warships”. There will be at least where to attach graduates of the Institute of Naval Forces. It is possible that in the headquarters of the Naval Forces of Ukraine they are developing some kind of special “towing strategy”, because the plans are a lot.
Ukraine in November 2018 announced the country’s development strategy right up to 2035, which provides for three stages, each of which provides for “a qualitative strengthening of the Ukrainian fleet”.
In the first, coastal protection is supposed to be at the expense of coastal artillery, missile systems and mines. On the second – the creation of conditions for action in the 200-mile economic zone. Here again rockets are involved, at this stage already cruise, monitoring the surface of the surface and the underwater and air space. A special place was reserved … for the “mosquito fleet,” apparently when writing a strategy, they did not yet know that two of the six “mosquitoes” would be lost.
The third stage provides for the creation of opportunities for fleet action in the open ocean. Behind the scenes of the strategy, it is felt that it was written with a hint to the West – let’s go to the ocean in tow, just take us to NATO and give money.
