While the world followed the meeting of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, around Iran and with the participation of Iran, there were “vague events”. It will be necessary to deal with this, especially since on the days of the visit to Moscow of the chief adviser of Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei Ali Akbar Velayeti, an early meeting between the presidents of Russia, Iran and Turkey was announced in Tehran. Reports of the clashes were circulated a day before the Russian-American summit in Helsinki – and, willy-nilly, one gets the impression that someone really wanted the US president to have at least one “new” visor before his talks with Putin.
Iran’s security and intelligence forces destroyed two terrorist groups in the northwestern province of West Azarbeyjan, Fars News reported: “Two armed terrorist groups that illegally crossed the border with Iran were destroyed by intelligence forces during two ambush operations.” The terrorists were identified by the Ministry of Intelligence in a series of operations to combat espionage. Two terrorists were killed, and many others were arrested. A large number of weapons and ammunition were confiscated from them. And the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) destroyed and wounded several terrorists in clashes with a terrorist group in the western province of Kermanshah. This group, said the IRGC command, planned to commit acts of sabotage after crossing the border with Iran in the province of Kermanshah, but was completely destroyed by the IRGC forces. During the clashes, three terrorists were killed, and one was seriously wounded, one IRGC soldier was also killed. According to reports, attempts to breakthrough the saboteurs took place on the night of July 15.
This information reminded of the events of the last month, when an attempt was made to break a group of 20 terrorists to Iran in the same north-western direction of the Iranian border on the night of June 5 in the same Western Azarbayjan, bordering on Iraq. And then in an exchange of fire one officer and one ensign of the frontier service of the IRGC were killed. As Tasnim News then added, “in the past, border checkpoints in the area were often attacked, mainly by members of the terrorist group PJAK (” The Free Life Party in Kurdistan “).”
Iranian Information and Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alawi said “hot on the heels” that “several terrorist groups were arrested in the west and southwest of Iran over the past few days.” Alawi said that the security forces monitor terrorists and ultimately conduct operations to arrest them before they can conduct any terrorist operations. The minister also said that terrorists confiscated a large number of explosive devices. June 8, however, again some forces tried to break into Iran – this time in the area of Oshnavia of the same West Azarbegian, and 100% – precisely from Iraqi Kurdistan. As reported by the Iranian media, “all 7 members of a terrorist group from Iraqi Kurdistan in clashes with Iranian security forces were killed or wounded.”
Apparently, the direct threat of Tehran to introduce troops and IRGC into the territory of KRG quickly cooled the Kurds. Assistant to the head of the Department of External Relations of the Government of Iraqi Kurdistan Siam Mamand responded promptly a few hours after the note of protest: “The will of the Iraqi Kurdistan region is based on the development and strengthening of relations with Iran. Therefore, expressing dissatisfaction with the latest events, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq declares that it will not allow constructive and positive relations between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan to be overshadowed by such actions. ” He further noted that the government of Iraqi Kurdistan will not jeopardize its interests due to any group or party.
In the spring, also “certain forces”, but obviously – having Kurdish “origin”, tried to attack from the territory of Northern Iraq to attack Iran, but several times were thrown back with tangible losses. And then the Prime Minister of KRG Nechirvan Barzani in Tehran gave sworn assurances that there will be no anti-Iranian sorties from the Iraqi Kurdistan. As we see, the Barzani clan again “broke” – what should be attributed to the fact that this June, this part of the Iraqi Kurds was subjected to massive processing by the special services of the United States, Israel and … Turkey.
And that’s why. The fact is that in mid-June, following Tehran’s protest against the Iraqi Kurds, the headquarters of the ground forces of the IRGC issued a statement on the destruction of two terrorist gangs in northwestern Iran within 24 hours, a day after the neutralization of the terrorist cell of 7 people. The Iranian Ministry of Information and Intelligence also added that security forces arrested 27 members of a terrorist network that planned to carry out terrorist attacks during the holy month of Ramadan. Unlike reports of a border provocation in the area of Oshnavia in West Azarbayjan, this time neither the IRGC nor the Ministry of Information and Intelligence has specified which territories terrorists wanted to break into Iran from. Something similar happened in the summer of both 2016 and 2017. And a year or two ago, Iranian state bodies and the media then stressed where the terrorists came from, they modestly kept silent, pointing only to the Iranian provinces, where gangs of criminals wanted to break through.
It’s time to return to the reports of the border incident on July 15. It is noted that if there are no references in the reports of the “ordinary” media of Iran (Fars News, Mehr News, Tasnim News, even the English-language TV channel Press-TV, etc.), where did the terrorists invade the province of West Azarbeyjan? Reports of officialdom – the agency IRNA, and semi-agency – agency ISNA, clearly indicated the source of the terrorist attack: the bandits came from Turkey. “The IRGC ground forces reported the liquidation of a group of terrorists in the border city of Noudeshah in the west of Iran. The terrorists who invaded Turkey intended to carry out operations inside the country, but the IRGC forces during the special operation successfully neutralized the planned attacks on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In the course of the special operation three terrorists were liquidated. Several explosive devices were also found for carrying out suicide attacks, as well as a huge amount of explosives. ” However, by July 20, references to Turkey were filmed in the news line and IRNA, and ISNA …
So, on the eve of the meeting of the Presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey in Tehran, the Iranian authorities, showing “for a minute” their trump cards, decided to postpone the clarification of relations with Ankara before Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s personal visit to the Iranian capital. It is probably possible to connect this with two circumstances, or even three. First, a few days before the terrorist attacks from Turkey and a day before Ali Akbar Velayeti arrived in Moscow, Iran’s defense minister Amir Khatami and his Turkish counterpart Nurettin Kanikli stressed the need to continue military cooperation between the two neighboring countries to solve regional problems. “The destruction of the Danish Institute (an organization banned in the Russian Federation) was an example of regional cooperation and the result of interaction between Iran, Russia and Turkey, and this important event was disrupted by the conspiracy of the Zionists and the US government,” said General Khatami, Tehran Times reported. Khatami said that Tehran welcomes the expansion of cooperation between the two countries “in the military sphere, defense industry, training and research to enhance the level of security capabilities.”
The second is that Turkey did not dare to support the claims of its allies “over Syria”, ie, the US and Israel, on the withdrawal of Iranian military advisors and Shiite militias from Syria and Iraq. And in Tehran they noticed it – although everyone knows perfectly well that at first Erdogan almost demanded (after the liberation of Eastern Aleppo) in the form of allusions and half-hints, that the Iranians leave themselves and “press” on the Shiites. In addition, during the described days there was a coordinated evacuation from two Shiite villages (about 7 thousand people) in the north of the Syrian province of Idlib, which for 7 years held a circular defense against terrorists and the “moderate Syrian opposition” – El Fua and Kefrai, who remained faithful the government of Bashar al-Assad. And equally important and interesting: it was on July 20 that a representative delegation of the Ministry of Finance and the US State Department arrived from Ankara to meet with Turkish authorities and discuss “sanctions” directed against Iran, an official from the Turkish Foreign Ministry told the Turkish edition of Sabah. “The US delegation, which is currently negotiating in India, will visit Ankara regarding sanctions against Iran. This delegation will meet with representatives of related agencies, including officials of the ministries of foreign affairs and finance, “the source said. A spokesman for the US Embassy in Turkey confirmed that the talks are scheduled for July 20 and will focus on sanctions against Iran.
Tehran at the talks in the format of the three presidents will certainly remind Ankara of its oaths and assurances that the IRGC and the intelligence services of Iran know for sure that either Turkey itself, or its allies again from the Turkish territory, are trying to terrorize different kinds of terrorists against Iran. Let us recall the assurances of not someone, namely, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, who stated on June 18: “The Injirlik aviation base in Turkey is used only in accordance with the purpose of combating terrorism, so that Turkey will not allow any country to use this airbase to attack another country,” Mehr News reported.
He pointed to a possible US request to use the Incirlik airbase to attack Iran, and said that his country would not allow the US to use its air base for a possible strike against Iran. Yildirim stressed that Turkey will allow using its air base to another country only to fight terrorism, but the US can not use the airbase to attack any country. But a month has passed – and the territory of Iran was attacked several times from the Turkish territory, albeit not by air from Injirlik.
