Read the Transcript of Trump’s Speech on the Iran Nuclear Deal

On May 8, US President Trump said that America is withdrawing from the so-called nuclear deal with Iran. Three years ago, this agreement, which was of fundamental importance for the whole world, was the result of a very difficult and protracted diplomatic marathon. When the accords nevertheless reached – on the one hand, six states – Russia, China, Germany, France, England and America – and on the other – Iran, then, of course, Europe, of course, sighed with relief, and the streets of Tehran was filled with a hundred thousand jubilant crowd. The Iranians were happy that they were being removed from international sanctions imposed by the decision of the UN Security Council, and independently by America and the European Union. In exchange, there was agreement that from now on the entire nuclear complex of the country is passing under international control. Iran has committed itself to using nuclear energy only for peaceful purposes.
An important point: the verification of the execution of a nuclear transaction is carried out by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). That is, not some separate country and not some group of countries, but only the IAEA. Dot.
Iran thus fell under the strictest control in the world. Not experienced by any country in the world. IAEA inspectors continuously sit on every nuclear facility in Iran and have virtually unlimited access everywhere. This is called permanent monitoring.
The “Six” of the countries-signatories of the nuclear deal with Iran regularly receives IAEA reports. And each time these reports confirm that Iran scrupulously pursues a nuclear deal. Here is a buying line from an official statement by the IAEA, made just the day after Trump broke America’s obligations on a nuclear deal with Iran: “To date, the IAEA confirms that Iran’s nuclear obligations are being fulfilled.”
That means, Iran performs a deal with six countries. Refused to execute the deal with six countries, specifically with Iran, China, Germany England, France and Russia America.
By the way, in the text of the agreement – and it is called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (VCPR) – a procedure for resolving disputes and even the procedure for the withdrawal of individual countries from the agreement are envisaged. America has not resorted to any prescribed procedures. Trump just slammed the door, not wanting to discuss anything with anyone. This is the new style that America affirms in international affairs: what I want, I turn back. How can a break in a deal affect Iran’s policy?
It is curious that the unreliability of the US as a partner in the negotiations on the deal was predicted three years ago by Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He is the number one figure in present Iran. For the time being, Khamenei already wrote on his Twitter: “I trust our negotiators, but I’m very concerned that the other side can lie and break promises.” And further on specifically about the US: “They always cheat and break promises.”
Khamenei retained his skepticism even after the nuclear deal was concluded. And the target for him then was none other than the main supporter of the deal, the “sheikh of diplomacy,” Iranian President Ruhani. This is addressed to him: “Some say that with their coming to power, the shadow of war hanging over the country has left.” This is not true. ”
That is, Ayatollah Khamenei real;y dodged a bullet. And the position of President Ruhani today, it seems, has been weakened. After all, it was Ruhani who turned out to be gullible. After all, it was he inside Iran who was the engine of the nuclear deal that America so easily neglected. Ruhani is considered moderate in Iran, a supporter of secular reforms. If it is compromised, the positions of the much more radical Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will be strengthened.
Will this situation make anyone feel safer? For example, Europe or Israel? I doubt it. That is, America is now acting objectively against moderate forces inside Iran. That’s all. Moreover, America forces Europe to seek adventure. Calls for the support of the restoration of sanctions against Iran.
The coming weeks will show how Germany, France and England will behave. So far, Iran gives them a chance. This is how President Rukhani now sees the situation: “From that moment on, a joint comprehensive plan of action is an agreement between Iran and five countries.” That is, the deal is still working, but without America, but with Europe, China and Russia.
But at the same time, President Ruhani continues. Being deceived, he is forced to make bitter belated confessions, publicly, directly in the address to the nation. “We witnessed an important historical experience. For the past forty years we have repeated that Iran is a country that is committed to its obligations, and the United States is a country that has never been committed to its obligations,” Ruhani said.
Nothing like this was heard from Ruhani during the period when he was negotiating with the States, it was impossible to hear. And would he have made a deal with America – “a country that has never been committed to its obligations”? And if so, what kind of new “good deal” with Iran does Trump say now? About the one that just one day can be called “bad” and under false pretenses, with violation of all procedures just slam the door again?
In any case, even the earlier moderate president Ruhani today sounds completely different. If the sanctions are renewed, Iran will withdraw from the deal and, in spite of everything, will return to the project of creating its own atomic bomb.
“I instructed the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization to be ready to take further steps if necessary, and if this need arises we will begin industrial enrichment without any restrictions,” Hassan Ruhani said.
The only thing that Iran can calm down now is if the five countries remaining in the deal, first of all Germany, France, England, as well as China and Russia, somehow compensate for the losses from the American demarche. Ruhani said this in a conversation with Erdogan, the president of Turkey. “Europe, especially the five parties involved in the negotiations with Iran, must clearly define the position and steps within a short period of time to compensate for the US withdrawal,” Ruhani said.
Actually, that’s how Iran sounds now – after Donald Trump just broke the deal.
