Syria, October 17th. The Kurds conducted a series of sabotage attacks against pro-Turkish militants northwest of Aleppo. The United States are trying to gain control of the entire southern part of the province of Homes with the help of the UN. SDF radicals suffered heavy losses as a result of attacks by Arab militias east of Raqqa, according to a military source from the Federal News Agency (FAN) in Syria, Ahmad Marzouq (Ahmad Marzouq).
Briefly on the outcome of the confrontation
Syrian Free Army (SSA): lost several of its militants as a result of another attack by YPG troops in Afrin.
Kurds: Attacked by Arab militias east of Raqqi, losing more than ten SDF radicals killed and wounded.
International Coalition: trying to secure control over the entire southern part of the province of Homs with the help of the UN; is preparing to deploy a new airfield on the eastern outskirts of Al-Shaddadi.
“Faylak ash-Sham”: due to the explosion of the IED laid by Kurdish fighters in the north-west of Aleppo, it lost one of its field commanders.
The news channel in Telegram (@ Syria_2_4) reports the detonation of an improvised explosive device, which resulted in the destruction of a car with one of the field commanders of the pro-Turkish group Faylak ash-Sham. This happened on the outskirts of Afrin, northwest of Aleppo. It is assumed that the IEDs were laid by the fighters of the Kurdish National Self-Defense Detachments (YPG), who regularly sabotage the region in the framework of Operation Olive Angers, directed against the troops of Turkey and their allies.
The YPG-controlled portal Kurdistan 24, meanwhile, reports that the Kurds launched an attack on the checkpoint of one of the brigades of the Syrian Free Army (SSA), supported by Ankara, in the administrative center of the canton of Afrin. As a result, it is alleged that the pro-Turkish armed forces suffered significant damage – in particular, several radicals of the group were killed.
Province of Homs.
According to military sources at Fars News, members of the administration of the Ar-Rukban refugee camp, which is located in the US occupation zone near the At-Tanf base in the south of Homs province, appealed to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres. In their message, they demand pressure on official Damascus in order to unblock the Syrian Arab Army (CAA) of all roads that lead to the camp and on which supplies of food kits and medicines were previously delivered. However, sources emphasize that in this way – through the use of refugees – the command of the Western coalition led by the United States is only trying to force the UN to influence the Syrian government and achieve the withdrawal of the SAR government forces from the zone of influence of Washington. Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in the camp of Ar-Rukban, where the US military does not even allow humanitarian convoys, is close to critical.
Arab militia fighters associated with local Zaevfraty tribes continue to attack Kurdish radicals in the vicinity of Raqqa and other parts of the self-proclaimed Rojava. The next attack took place to the east of the provincial capital, according to a local information resource on Twitter (@ 24Raqqa). According to his data, an explosive device went off near the checkpoint of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the outskirts of the village of Rakket Samra, as a result of which more than ten SDF radicals were wounded and destroyed. Thus, the Kurdish-Arab conflict continues to flare up in the region, the next escalation of which was provoked by the seizure by the “Democratic forces” and US troops of these lands, where there are mainly Arabs and where, on the contrary, there is no compact Kurdish population.
Province of Hasaka.
According to a military source on Twitter (@ C_Military1), the command of the armed forces of the United States is preparing to deploy a new airfield on the eastern outskirts of the city of Al-Shaddadi, located in the southern province of Hasaka. According to their plans, the object should be able to receive large military transport aircraft of the US Air Force. It is worth noting that the Pentagon, despite numerous promises by the American President Donald Trump to leave Syria, in recent months, by contrast, has significantly increased its contingent in the northeast of the Arab Republic. In order to further build up military power in the Middle East, Washington continues to support the processes initiated by Kurdish leaders aimed at separating the so-called Kurdistan from the main part of the SAR and, that means, the collapse of the country.
