What weapons does Kiev threaten to fight to the Urals

U.S.-initiated termination of the INF Treaty in Ukraine is welcome.

The whole world, including Australia, is somehow responding to the termination of the Treaty on Medium and Shorter Range Missiles (INF Treaty). Everywhere – a negative reaction. Of course, Europe is most depressed. And only one official Ukraine does not hide joy.

Indeed, a recent article in the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN is amazing. And not only by the fact that paradoxical ideas are expressed in it, sometimes at odds with common sense. It seems that this is the position of the current Kiev authorities. Because UNIAN is part of Pan Kolomoisky’s media holding.

The reason for the article is traditional: «Is there such a superpower – Russia? Here was the Soviet Union – it was a superpower, even the United States had to reckon with this «evil empire» (which, incidentally, included the Ukrainian SSR).» But Russia, they say, is so, there is only one bluff.

  • After August 2, many started talking about the beginning of a new wave of the arms race between the US and Russia, – the publication said.
  • However, no arms race should be expected, because now the United States does not see Russia as a subject of international relations, equivalent to the United States, China or the European Union.

Of course, at the same time, UNIAN acts as a US attorney, paying attention to their defenselessness. No – not before Russia, “a backward country of a regional level.” And before China: “A lot has changed over the past 30 years, primarily the role of China, which did not take part in this treaty and therefore produced hundreds of missiles that went beyond the INF Treaty, thus jeopardizing the security of the United States. The United States decided to move to a new level and invited all countries with nuclear weapons and the possibility of creating carriers of medium and shorter range nuclear weapons to conclude and sign a new treaty. It is precisely in this context that the termination of the INF Treaty should be considered, and not listen to the Russians who shout that a new “arms race” is starting in Europe.

The conclusion regarding how Ukraine should relate to the termination of the INF Treaty is absolutely staggering in the material mentioned: “So, in the conditions of the war with Russia, it is in our hands that the INF Treaty would not work at all, then we could calmly begin the development and production of missiles medium and shorter range, which can become a tool to deter Russian aggression, and, therefore, create conditions under which the Russians will feel the threat from Ukraine. ”

Two quite natural questions arise. Firstly, who previously prevented Ukraine from creating its own ballistic and cruise missiles with a range of 500 km to 5500 km? Did it, like China, India, and another 191 states of the world apply to the limitations set forth in the Treaty?

It cannot be called otherwise than suddenly appeared megalomania of Kiev. Exactly so, since there is an inadequate understanding of our own significance both in Europe and in the world: – Europeans cannot forbid us to move in this direction (to create medium- and shorter-range missiles). There are no mechanisms that would allow Europe to do this.

Who and when, in fact, allowed Ukraine into the European Union so that at least some “Brussels” laws apply to it?

Secondly, what weapons that would threaten Russian territory can the Ukrainian defense industry create today? No, not in words, but in practice? Because the words are already pronounced the most victorious. So, for example, in the middle of last month, the ex-secretary of the National Security Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov said that promising Ukrainian Neptune cruise missiles could smash the Crimean Bridge into chips. And at the same time sink the Russian warships of any rank.

Even worse for Russia, according to Kiev, is its new operational-tactical missile system Olkha. In Kiev, it was believed that if the complex, for example, was installed in the village of Lyutoye, Sumy Region, then its missiles would fly right up to the Moscow Kremlin. At the same time, it is alleged that the accuracy of the Olkha shooting is high due to the correction of missile flight using the GPS satellite signal.

Both complexes – “Olkha” and “Neptune” – are called in advance and absolutely unprovenly the pride of the defense industry of their country in Kiev. However, those missiles have not even been adopted yet. Other missile systems in Ukraine have not been developed.

Upon closer acquaintance with Neptune and the Alder, it becomes clear that they are not so new. And not so Ukrainian. Both are rooted in Soviet missile development.

Olkha began to be created back in the 90s. Under different names: “Thunder”, “Borisfen”, “Sapsan” … When the money ran out with zero result, the topic was closed. It reopened after a while under a different name.

Directly, “Olkha” began to be closely engaged in 2014. Two years later, they had already been “tested”. However, it soon became clear that the commercial showed the launch of a Soviet missile from a Soviet launcher.

In the end, it turned out that the Alder is not an operational-tactical missile system, but a multiple launch rocket system with eight guides. For the model for design experiments, the Soviet Smerch MLRS was selected, firing rockets of 300 mm caliber.

At the same time, according to Ukrainian military-technical propaganda, the creators of the Alder performed a miracle. They took a guided Russian projectile 9M542 and shortened it slightly (7000 mm versus 7600 mm). They also made it easier (800 kg versus 820 kg). And they pushed into it almost twice as much solid mixed fuel. In this connection, the firing range reached 200 km against 120 km at Smerch (we note in parentheses that only Chinese MLRS shells of 400 mm caliber are capable of flying 200 km).

Moreover, the Ukrainian shell seems to be carrying a significantly more powerful warhead – 250 kg versus 150 kg. One can hardly believe all this.

There is evidence that the Olkha has been mass-produced for almost a year. And this is also a miracle – a complex system was created in four years. At that time, the cycle of creation of the “Tornado” (before it was adopted) continued from 1976 to 1987. But there is no information about the combat use of the Olkha. While this miracle weapon is used only for parades.

The story is about the same with the Neptune anti-ship missile. Ukrainian designers took the drawings of the Soviet subsonic RCC X-35 and made their RCC. Fortunately, Ukrainian enterprises also took part in the production of the X-35. Naturally, as Turchinov continuously said, with the best characteristics.

The author was one of the first inspectors of the INF Treaty in the USSR in 1988

With an increased mass of the rocket by 25%, the firing range supposedly more than doubled – 300 km versus 130 km. Everything else is the same. Active radar homing head. Flight control system. Subsonic speed. Of course, there is, according to Kiev, a record-breaking development period, which began after the Kiev coup and is due to end in December this year. For comparison: the creation of the X-35 in the incomparable more powerful military-industrial complex of the USSR took 19 years.

To realize the greatness of the “feat” of Ukrainian designers, but rather the degree of deceit at the official Ukrainian level, it must be remembered that until 2014 there was no scientific and production school in Ukraine specializing in the creation of cruise missiles. Yes, of course, in Dnepropetrovsk (now the Dnieper) there is still the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, which created the famous Voevoda ICBM with the participation of many Soviet enterprises. And also its production base is the Yuzhmash plant. However, both of these once glorified enterprises are now literally in ruins. Leading experts fled, beggarly salary, output almost zero.

Actually, before the 2014 coup, Dnepropetrovsk firms pretty much degraded. Yuzhnoye Design Bureau in 2006 began to develop Sapsan OTRK. However, seven years later it turned out that Ukrainian rocket-builders could not create any Sapsan. Therefore, the UNIAN hopes for Ukrainian medium-range missiles, which will bring horror to Moscow, are completely groundless.
